Eon

A wind energy workshop/competition was designed and developed by Lab Rascals in Oct-Dec 2016.  10 North Lincolnshire primary schools will take part in a half day wind energy workshop/competition developed by Lab Rascals in 2017 which includes:

  • Building a working wind turbine model with Lego in small teams.
  • Charging a battery with the wind turbine to power a Lego car.
  • Designing and making blades for the wind turbines taking angles, size and shape into consideration.
  • Generating as much power as possible in two minutes using the children’s own blades.
  • The workshops will be finished off with a race between Lego cars using the energy generated by the wind turbines with the children’s own blades.

This project for Eon is ongoing with the overall aim to introduce wind energy production and how the Humber is the UK’s energy estuary to KS2 children.

Siemens

Amy Johnson Kite Festival – Lab Rascals was hired to entertain families by making paper wind turbines and demonstrating the impact of CO2 on the environment with wow factor hands on experiments. These activities were designed for Siemens to bring awareness to the renewable energy industry.

The Freedom Festival - Lab Rascals was hired to engage the public with interactive demonstrations to highlight the importance of renewable energy. Alongside this Lab Rascals was active in communicating information about Siemens careers fairs, advertising the careers Siemens has to offer and bringing overall awareness of Siemens in the local area.

The University of Hull

Hull Science Festivals – Lab Rascals engaged with families using a range of different practical science experiments. These activities were designed to inspire children into science and highlight research areas of the university science departments.

Science Summer School for children aged 8-14 – Lab Rascals designed, developed and delivered several different 3-5hr science workshops to approximately 300 children annually.  These workshops include chemistry, biology, physics, forensics, mechanical engineering and computer science. The aim of these workshops is to raise aspirations of low income and minority groups. These summer schools provide an opportunity for children to attend the university and take part in a range of enjoyable experiments in the university laboratories.

International Motor Sport

Wales Rally GB – Lab Rascals conducted a selection of dry ice and slime experiments with secondary school children and families over this three day event. These experiments were part of the Big Bang Fair Wales which aims to engage/inspire children into science, technology engineering and mathematics.

Yorkshire Cancer Research

Lab Rascals designed and delivered several exhibitions to the general public. These exhibitions were designed to highlight what cancer is and the importance of using sun screen to help prevent skin cancer to a non-scientific audience.

The Children University

Lab Rascals entertained primary and secondary children during a children in care celebration event. The activities chosen for this event was aimed to be hands-on and entertaining with included making slime, dry ice bubbles and UV reacting key rings which was a huge hit with all the children.

Big Bang Fair Doncaster

Big bang fairs are aimed at inspiring children into science, technology, engineering and mathematics and celebrating children achievements in these areas. During the annually event Lab Rascals made a 6m by 1m balloon model of DNA with secondary children from Yorkshire and the Humber. In conjunction with this Lab Rascals piloted a new board game on renewable energy designed and created with a group of year 9 school children from Malet Lambert School.

STEM in Action

Stem in action is an annually two day event at the KC stadium from year 5/6 school children from Hull, East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.  Children take part in five different interactive workshops hosted by a local companies over the course of a day. Lab Rascals has designed and delivered workshops on genetics, the states of matter, renewable energy, polymers and crystallography at this event to over 200 children per day. The aim of this event is to inspire children into science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This event has been a huge success over the past years and will hopefully continue to inspire children for years to come.

Northern Lincolnshire City Council

Comic-con (Scunthorpe) - Lab rascals designed and delivered several children activities and demonstrations to a family audience.  These activities highlighted the science behind theatre effected used in films.
