At Lab Rascals, we believe science should be exciting, accessible and, most importantly, hands-on!

Founded in 2012 by qualified chemist Katie, Lab Rascals began with a simple mission: to share a love of science with the next generation and give children the opportunity to discover just how fascinating the world around them can be.

Today, we bring interactive science workshops, mobile planetarium experiences and STEM activities to schools, families and community events across North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire, Hull and East Yorkshire.

From bubbling chemical reactions to exploring distant planets, we create memorable experiences that encourage curiosity, build confidence and inspire a lifelong interest in science.

Meet the Lab Rascals Team

Katie – Founder, Director & Chemist

Katie founded Lab Rascals in 2012 with a passion for sharing her love of science and making practical STEM education accessible to everyone.

As a qualified chemist, she has over 15 years of experience developing and delivering interactive science workshops for schools, families and community organisations.

Over the years, Katie has worked with schools, universities, charities and major organisations in the science and renewable energy sectors. Her work has also received recognition through business awards, including the Hull Youth Enterprise Awards and the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

Katie remains actively involved in developing and delivering workshops, ensuring that every experience is engaging, educational and genuinely hands-on.

Steve – Astronomer & Planetarium Presenter

Steve joins Lab Rascals from Brough Astronomical Society, bringing his knowledge of astronomy and enthusiasm for exploring the Universe.

He leads our mobile planetarium experiences, using our advanced Digistar system to take pupils on immersive journeys through space.

From discovering the planets in our Solar System to exploring distant galaxies, Steve brings astronomy to life through engaging presentations and opportunities for pupils to ask questions.

Laura – SEND Specialist & Science Workshop Assistant

Laura brings 12 years of experience working in SEND settings, including schools and specialist educational environments.

Her experience supporting children and young people with additional needs is invaluable in helping us create welcoming, inclusive and accessible science experiences.

Working alongside Katie, Laura helps ensure that participants feel supported, confident and able to enjoy taking part in our hands-on activities.

We're not a science show where children simply sit and watch.

At Lab Rascals, we believe the best way to learn science is to experience it for yourself.

Our workshops give children the opportunity to become scientists, whether they're investigating chemical reactions, extracting DNA, building LEGO wind turbines or exploring the properties of materials.

Every activity is designed around genuine scientific principles, encouraging children to ask questions, make predictions, experiment and discover how science connects to the world around them.

Making Science Accessible to Everyone

Inclusivity has always been at the heart of Lab Rascals.

We have extensive experience delivering activities for children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), working alongside specialist schools, charities and community organisations.

We understand that everyone learns differently. That's why we work closely with teachers, support staff and organisers to adapt our activities wherever possible, helping participants feel comfortable, confident and included.

Our commitment to accessibility has also been recognised through a Disability Confidence Award.

Working with Schools, Industry & Communities

Since 2012, we've had the opportunity to collaborate with organisations including the Royal Society of Chemistry, RWE, Ørsted and the British Science Association.

These partnerships have enabled us to develop exciting STEM experiences, support educational projects and introduce young people to real-world science, engineering and environmental challenges.

We're particularly passionate about connecting classroom learning with the industries shaping our future, from renewable energy and sustainability to chemistry and astronomy.

Bringing Science to You

Based in Barton upon Humber, Lab Rascals delivers science experiences across North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire, Hull and East Yorkshire, as well as selected surrounding areas.

Whether we're visiting a small village school, delivering a birthday party, supporting a SEND group or inspiring hundreds of young people at a community event, our aim remains the same:
